Encounters in In Falsus
When a chart is a conversation, a fight, or both.
An Encounter is not free play. Official store language: every step forward brings a greater trial; protagonists contend with or assist other characters; those key moments are each tied to unique songs. The demo’s 0.3.0 notes even split “Card Integration” and “Encounter gameplay” as two things you are finally allowed to preview.
If you came from a score-attack rhythm game, this is the mental shift. You are not only climbing a rating. You are resolving a scene. The playfield still wants EXACT timing. The HUD also tracks Encounter Score with stars beside the giant performance number.
How to recognize an Encounter
In the Hyaloüyne capture, the top-left block shows the big score and a second line labelled Encounter Score (example: 151’343 with a star rating). Card portraits stack on the left. Phase indicators and side resource bars appear because the chart is allowed to change rules mid-song, not because the UI designer was bored.
If those extra meters are empty in a pack-style play, you are probably in a simpler music-game mode. If they are live, you are in a story fight. Do not pause to screenshot every number on the first pass; survive, then read.
Why songs are unique to people
lowiro’s pitch is that music, sound design, and themes reflect the events of the game. The gameplay trailer is almost a cast argument: Iris comments on a Bind’s color, Ayame warns that lies are visible, Nia wants to stop being the person who leaks blue. Those lines are not flavor text around a random banger. They are the reason that Encounter exists.
When you later open character pages, read them as Encounter context. Mei would rather talk movies than music but still performs. Iris treats survival as swing-first. Story Étienne is a Mute who chose silence. An Encounter against or beside those people should feel different in the Field, not only in the VN portraits.
Cards ride the Encounter, they do not skip it
Iota integration is how you bring Power, Defence, Range, and Iota Limit into the fight. Official site copy: crafted Cards grant advantages and new approaches against stronger Scenario threats. That is Encounter language. A sloppy Blueprint with Overload and Out of Bounds still Integrates something; it just Integrates a worse tool.
Do not farm the demo’s hex lab for an hour hoping to skip learning flicks. The Field still kills you if you refuse to move the mouse. Cards change the approach. Timing still closes the scene.
Difficulty inside an Encounter
Encounters still pick MIN / EVO / ULT / FBD. Story importance does not auto-scale the chart to your rank. If the scene matters to you, play it on MIN first so you hear the song and read the HUD. Then raise difficulty. The difficulty guide is the ladder; Encounters are the reason the ladder is inside a novel.
FBD remaining locked is especially important here. A locked tile is not an Encounter you failed. It is a difficulty the build has not opened.
Demo versus launch
0.3.0 lets you see Encounter gameplay. It does not give you every launch boss. Official materials still talk about five interconnected perspectives and a government program that yanks the girls out of ordinary high school. Those later Encounters belong to September 9. If a YouTube thumbnail promises a full-game fight tree, it is guessing.
The official gameplay trailer in the middle of this page is the tone reference: collars, arguments, then a chart. Watch it once, then play the demo Encounter with the sound up.
Practical Encounter checklist
- Equip a loadout you actually Integrated, even a weak one, so the left-side portraits mean something.
- Start MIN.
- Glance once at Encounter Score after the first chorus, then ignore it until the result screen.
- If you fail, ask whether the Field, the Floor, or a card penalty caused it. Only one of those is a Blueprint problem.
- Read the following VN lines. The chart was a sentence.
For bind issues, return to controls. For score math, continue to scoring. For who you are fighting beside, use the character hub.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for demo players and launch-week questions.
Is Encounter Score the same as my main score?
No. The huge number is performance accuracy. Encounter Score with stars is the story-fight layer, influenced by cards.
Can I skip Encounters and only play music?
The demo is built to mix them. Launch may offer more music-game browsing, but the product is Scenario-first.
Do I need five Cards before an Encounter?
No. Five is the cap. One Integrated card is enough to learn the HUD. See card integration.
Will launch Encounters be spoilers?
Yes, by design. Stay on this wiki's Scenario page if you want structure without endings.
